Samarkand, Bukhara, the Silk Road. Such names bring to mind the tales of the Thousand and One Nights as told by Princess Scheherazade. And yet, very few people know the exact location of these legendary cities.

Located between China and Russia, Central Asia is a little known region made up of five countries: Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. All these countries have a rich common history. This region was located at the crossroads of different worlds and has seen many great civilizations such as the Persians, Greeks, Arabs, Mongolians, Timurids and Soviets before becoming independent in 1991.
